Introduction

Veszprémfajsz is a single-street settlement located at the southern foot of the Bakony Hills, whose name refers to Fajsz, the son of Jutas, who was the son of Árpád. Its local attractions include Kálvária (Calvary) Hill, the Catholic church, and the nearby Balácapuszta Roman villa archaeological site. The medieval predecessor of the settlement was destroyed during the Turkish era; the ruins of its church can still be found in the vicinity of the Baláca ruins, thus directly linking the historical monuments to Roman heritage. Part of the local identity is the memory of the 18th-century German settlers' arrival, which is still cultivated today through cultural programs (e.g., Ethnicity Day, Maypole dancing).
