Storytelling Bus Stops - Wheat Market Square
The trade turnover of Veszprém was mainly ensured by the sale of grain and wine, which were also produced in large quantities in the area, and by wholesale intermediary trade. Until the construction of the southern railway in the 1860s "seven counties brought their grain to the Veszprém market". After the harvest, the average import of grain was 40-50 wagons per week, which did not immediately change hands, so the buildings surrounding the large market square were mostly grain warehouses until the mid-19th century. Smallholders from the local area and the immediate surroundings also brought to the market the fruit and vegetables, milk and dairy products needed for daily consumption. The town's craftsmen and traders and itinerant traders also appeared with their wares.
