Storytelling Bus Stops - Csomay Beach
Veszprém's legendary beach bath and swimming pool was built by Kálmán Csomay and his son in 1933.
The beach was in a very beautiful location, with a beautiful view of the Castle. Its popularity was enhanced by the fact that it was located close to the city centre, yet in a quiet, dust- and noise-free area.
The beach baths and swimming pool consisted of a preheating pool, a 33,3×18 m swimming pool with a depth of 2 m, also suitable for racing, and a 40×18 m bathing pool. The depth of the latter (0,6-1,5 m) allowed children and non-swimmers to enjoy the beach. There were also 3 shops, 2 large changing rooms, 145 cabins and a cashier's office. In addition to the beach, there was a bar, a hairdresser's, a manicurist's, and a confectioner's on a small island in the middle of the pool.
Water was supplied by Völgyi Spring and six other smaller springs. The water from the springs was collected and piped through a sluice through concrete slabs to the preheating pool, which was about 300 cubic metres in size. The heating process started on the concrete slabs and in three days the water reached a temperature that allowed it to be fed into the pools. So the water was changed every three days.
Around 20 staff - including ushers, stewards, cleaners and lifeguards - worked seasonally during the summer. The pools were surrounded by a wide area of sand, where you could sunbathe, chat and hang out.
