Since 2020, the Mini-Sculptures have been providing a pleasant place to relax for residents and visitors alike. They are an excellent excuse for a stroll through the city centre. The map, which can also be implemented with the help of the grant, supports this objective, so that more people can visit the historic city centre of the county and learn about the cultural aspects and historical facts related to the location of the statues.

We are confident that the map will be used to encourage more visitors to the city to visit the site of the statues.

WHO IS HE?

Our street musician is a really bohemian, fun character, he takes life easy, he lives for today. We don't know where he came from or where he's going, but we hope he'll be with us for a long time. Our Street Musician is a symbol of the present.

THE BIRTH OF ÖDÖN

Music is the most prominent element of Veszprém's cultural life, so it was no question that the theme would be represented in the form of a mini-sculpture. Thus, the Street Musician was born.

ÖDÖN'S PLACE, PLANS AND CONCEPTS

Ödön has taken up a central location at the Utcazene Festival, close to the Auer Festival and many other music events at the Hangvilla. In fact, the work is not intended to refer to a single event, musician or instrument, but to music in general, which is a prominent and distinctive element of Veszprém's cultural life.

On Thursday, 6 August 2020, the Street Wren was placed in the lower part of Kossuth Lajos Street. On 16 August 2020, the Street Wren was named ÖDÖN by the vote of the voters.

WHO ARE THEY?

Our little girl is brave, resting on the back of a lion, turning her back on danger. Who knows, she may have already tamed the lion and they've become friends as she sits safely on its back, as if the maned beast is specifically looking out for her. The Little Girl and the Lion symbolise the future.

THE BIRTH OF THE LION AND THE LITTLE GIRL

The third sculpture is inspired by history and tourism. In this case, at the request of the client, the sculptor took the following themes into account. Veszprém is the town of the Queens ("Almost every little girl wants to be a princess.") Veszprém Zoo (The king of animals is the lion, in this case the prince next to the princess.)

THE PLACE OF THE LION AND THE LIONESS, PLANS AND CONCEPTS

The park side of the footbridge at the end of College Street and the top of the bridge end towards the castle. In the background are the Margaret ruins, in the opposite direction the castle of Veszprém, and even the zoo is a short walk away. The choice of location and the design refer to these places and - giving a wide range of associations - to the city of the Queens, to the linking of past, present and future. The creator has placed a telephone in the little girl's hand, yet the work is designed to leave it up to the observer to decide what he actually sees in the little girl's hand. For example, a teenager today might think it is a telephone, but someone who knows the historical context of the place might associate it with the Bible or simply a book.

The lion and the lioness were released on Thursday 3 September 2020 and were named LeoNóra in the naming vote on 14 September 2020.

WHO IS HE?

The guardian of the castle of Veszprém, the guardian of our city. He began his service at the entrance to the Castle of the Heroes, at the Heroes' Gate. He proudly wears the uniform of the Crown Guards and guards his small chest. He is a patriot, disciplined and very vigilant. A little grumpy, but with a big heart. The Guard is a symbol of the past.

THE BIRTH OF ERNŐ

Inspired by the history of the city. From the Turkish-era battles to the First World War and the Holy Crown preserved in Veszprém during the Second World War, it aims to depict several different events and stories of Veszprém. The Hungarian Holy Crown and the Holy Right were kept in Veszprém between 6 November and 6 December 1944. Ernő is wearing the uniform of the Royal Hungarian Crown Guard of the time.

LOCATION, PLANS AND CONCEPTS

The Guard was placed on a Monday, 13 July 2020, at the western pillar of the Heroes' Gate. On 1 August 2020, the voting for the name of the Guard was completed, and the Guard was named Ernő after the former commander of the Hungarian Royal Coronet Guard, Ernő Pajtás. Under his command, the Holy Crown and the Holy Right were guarded for a month in Veszprém. This mini statue differs from the other two works in Veszprém in that the location was chosen first and the content was then woven around it.

THE ARTIST: MIHÁLY KOLODKO

Mihály Kolodko and his family settled over into Hungary from Uzhhorod  (Hungarian: Ungvár), Ukraine in 2016. In recent years the sculptor has become well-known for creating mini bronze figures of characters from  1980s Hungarian cartoon series (Kockásfülű nyúl - the rabbit with checkered ears, Mekk Elek – jack of all trades, master of none, and Főkukac – an earthworm fishing bait with a character of his own). The miniature art works which started cropping up unexpectedly were instantly taken to people’s hearts, as Mihály Kolodko’s mini sculptures belong to a tradition of composition which makes sculptures less intimidating and easily accessible to audiences. These little creations make people pause for a while and reflect on minute details as well as the sculpture’s environment. It is hardly a wonder that several exploration tour events have been organized around these mini sculptures.
