Veszprém Dungeon is one of the oldest prison buildings in Hungary, and its history is closely intertwined with that of the Hungarian judiciary and Veszprém Regional Court.

In the former Veszprém Dungeon, the prison exhibition 'Human Behind Bars', which is renewed in both its appearance and content, explores thought-provoking questions through stories from Veszprém and the wider community.

The primary objective of the development is to serve the guests and tourists coming to the city in conjunction with ECoC programmes, from young to old, both nationally and internationally.

In developing the themes for the permanent exhibition in the dungeon, the aim is to appeal to a wider range of social groups. It is important that the exhibition also includes a transfer of knowledge, complementing the educational curriculum in schools. For adults, it expands their knowledge of the period. The exhibition can thus be a tool for lifelong learning.
