Tapolca Mill Lake
Introduction
Tapolca Mill is located in the heart of the city and is one of the most romantic and iconic parts of Hungary. It is fed by warm spring water rising from the karst cave system beneath the town, so its temperature remains between 18 and 20 °C throughout the year and does not freeze even in winter. The watermill on the bank of the river dates back to the 13th14th century, but its predecessor was already operating here in the Árpád era.
Today, the mill operates as a hotel and generates partially renewable energy with modern water wheels. The colorful houses, restaurants, cafés, and promenades reminiscent of a Mediterranean port. Koi carp and sturgeon swim in the water, while a playground and park await visitors on the shore.
Malom-tó is open to visitors all year round and is particularly popular during the summer lights, the autumn Trout and Wine Festival, and the sight of the steaming water in winter. There are restaurants, cafés, ice cream parlors, playgrounds, and event venues.
