Snail Parliament
Introduction
The Snail Parliament is one of Keszthely's most unique attractions, a one-of-a-kind model, which is a 1:33 scale replica of the Hungarian Parliament, built from 4.5 million Pannonian sea snail shells. The monumental work was created over a period of 14 years by Ilona Miskei, who collected the shells from variousmines and painstakingly shaped the details of the neo-Gothic building.
The model is 7.5 meters long and 2.5 meters high, and the decorative elements, window frames, and facades are all made of snails of different colors and shapes. The exhibition is part of the Downtown Museums in Keszthely and is not only a technical feat, but also a symbol of Hungarian craftsmanship and perseverance. Visitors can view the model, which is also known as a Guinness World Record, in a cellar room.
