"The project called Personal Lake Balaton explores the past and present of Lake Balaton and makes it visible through analogue and digital means, mainly by presenting private materials (photos, videos, postcards) at the railway and boat stations along Lake Balaton, as well as on social networking sites and web pages accessible to the wider public.
The programme started with a research and collection exercise in 2022, looking for stories and people who are willing to share important events in their lives related to the region, either through photos or personal narratives.
The stories are presented in a thematic format - for example, we look back at Balaton swimsuit fashion, the history of sailing, the world of Lake Balaton in winter, the transformation of life in the beach resorts, and the (creative) journeys of writers and poets to the shores of Lake Balaton. On the north shore, in Balatonalmadi, Balatonfüred, Balatonakali, Révfülöp, Badacsonytördemic-Szigliget, Keszthely, and on the south shore in Fonyód, Balatonboglar and Siófok. Railway stations and stops, busy lobbies and lounges of boat ports host exhibitions and installations that reflect our shared and personal memories and experiences."
