Personal Lake Balaton: Balatonfüred

The project, called Private Balaton, explores the past and present of Lake Balaton and makes it visible using analog and digital tools, primarily through the presentation of private materials (photos, videos, postcards) at railway and boat stations on the shores of Lake Balatonand at stations along the shores of Lake Balaton, as well as on public websites and web interfaces accessible to the wider public.

The program began its journey in 2022 with research and collection work, seeking out stories and people who are willing to share with us the most important events of their lives that are connected to the region, whether through photos,important events in their lives that are connected to the region, either through photographs or personal accounts.

The stories are presented in thematic form – we highlight, for example, the history of swimwear at Lake Balaton, the history of sailing, the winter world of Lake Balaton, we will follow the transformation of beach life, and the paths of writers and poets (their works)on the shores of Lake Balaton. On the northern shore in Balatonalmádi, Balatonfüred, Balatonakali, Révfülöp, Badacsonytörmedék-Szigliget, Keszthely, and on the southern shore in Fonyód, Balatonboglár and Siófok. Railway stations and stops, bus stations, and the busy lobbies and waiting rooms of boat terminals welcome our shared and personal memories, experiences, and installations.
