Militiaman Memorial Hike- Királyszentistván

The National Guard Memorial Hike was launched in 2018 by the Litér Municipal Values Committee, with the participation of the local governments of Királyszentistván and Sóly. The memorial hike commemorates the former National Guard (militia) captaincy of Litér from 1848, and through that, it honours the 1848–1849 Rvolution and War of Independence, enriching it with local and regional values. The event is an excellent example of community building and maintenance in the microregion, as it is not only a local event for Litér but also a shared occasion with neighbouring settlements. Following its initiation in 2018, the event achieved even greater success in 2019, attracting participants not just from the three municipalities, but also from Veszprém and several settlements on Lake Balaton. Due to the pandemic, the memorial hike was not held in 2020 and 2021, but it has been successfully organised again on 15th March every year since 2022. Nearly 100 hikers typically participate in the memorial hikes each year. The relaunch of the event was made possible with the support of the European Capital of Culture and as part of a local series of events.
