Marcali - renovation of Bernáth House
Marcali Museum, operated by the Municipality of Marcali, functions as the site of Bernáth Aurél Gallery, which stands on the site of the birthplace of the two-time Kossuth Award-winning painter. Until 2018, it served as an exhibition space for the painter's works. The building of the Gallery is a Bauhaus-style villa constructed in the 1930s, which has been owned by Marcali town since 1982 and is locally protected. The condition of the building has significantly deteriorated, and it has not functioned as a Gallery or community space since 2018. In 2020, the replacement of the building's facade, windows and roof structure took place, so the renewed exterior of the building is ready to fulfil its old-new purpose, provided that the interior spaces and the building's mechanical systems are also updated. The goal of the project is to renovate the building's interior, modernise its electrical and heating systems and acquire the necessary equipment for the interactive gallery function. The renewal of the park adjacent to the building, which also houses a bust of Aurél Bernáth, will provide a new community space suitable for cultural and artistic events.
