Királyszentistván
Introduction
Királyszentistván is located in the northeastern part of Lake Balaton, in the Séd Valley; offering views of both the Bakony Hills and the lake. In the center, St. Stephen's Gate and a gazebo in St. Stephen's Park, the church, the village hall, and the doctor's office give it an orderly yet rustic character. Local identity is reinforced by the traditional St. Stephen's Day (August 20) and membership in the Holy King Association of settlements containing that compound name. According to historical records, the battle between István and Koppány took place on the outskirts of the village in 997. Its medieval presence is indicated by finds from the Árpád and late medieval periods, as well as excavated burial sites. In terms of nature, Malomvölgy (Mill Valley) is a protected habitat: the memory of the former water mills is complemented by the bee-eater birds' nesting in the sand and feather grass rippling in the wind at the beginning of summer. The cliffs of Sukori Hill offer panoramic views for a short trip.
