INOTA Festival was held for the first time at the end of the summer of 2023. As one of the highlight events of the VEB2023 European Capital of Culture (ECoC) programme, the area of the thermal power plant—previously rarely and only partially open to the public—was opened for four days to visitors. The multidisciplinary event featured a range of programmes, including professional conferences and workshops, audiovisual light installations, as well as contemporary music and theatrical performances. The programmes took place at nearly two dozen locations within the power plant site, and more than 18,000 visitors attended, surpassing the organisers' expectations.

The goal of the organisers—besides showcasing unique installations using the most advanced technologies and contemporary artistic solutions—was to put Inota and the region on the map of contemporary audiovisual culture and integrate it into a cultural network where such a large-scale event had not yet been held in Hungary. In addition to the recognition from both the audience and the industry, the festival was nominated for a European Festival Award in the category of Best Small Festivals.

The festival will also take place in the summer of 2024 with two smaller events.
