Eötvös Károly County Library implemented visitor- and user-friendly developments in preparation for the European Capital of Culture year. English language training was introduced to improve language proficiency so that foreign visitors do not encounter communication issues. Special attention was given to accessibility for the deaf and hard of hearing by subscribing to a sign language interpretation service. We renewed our informational signs, focussing on the special needs of various disabled groups and children by placing easily interpretable labels and diagrams. By meeting basic requirements, we obtained the silver level of the Acces4you trademark. We also introduced selective waste collection and created a green corner to encourage environmental sustainability through our own example.

As a result of the project, the following developments have been realised in our library:

Visitor-Friendly Developments:

To facilitate easier orientation for visitors, new directional signs and labels have been placed throughout the building.

The glass surfaces in public areas have been equipped with decals to prevent accidents.

Easy-to-understand directional signs, including diagrams, have been installed for autistic individuals, those with intellectual disabilities and those living with mental health conditions.

Braille signs have been placed in the building for the blind and visually impaired.

We provide free video interpreting services via Kontakt for our hearing-impaired and deaf visitors in both the main building and branch libraries.

Study trips are organised to learn from the best practices of other libraries.

The training of two staff members in English is helping to inform incoming visitors.

As a result of these developments, we have obtained the silver level of the Acces4you trademark.

Family- and Child-Friendly Developments:

Special attention has been paid to children in the renewal of informational signs.

Family-friendly tools have been acquired.

Family- and child-friendly toilets have been installed.

Environmental Sustainability Developments:

A green corner has been created to communicate information regarding environmental sustainability.

Selective waste collection has been introduced: we have set up collection points for used batteries, mobile phones, neon light tubes and light bulbs.
