Introduction

The Dézsma (Tithe) Cellar is a family winery in South Balaton: its history dates back to the 1600s, when it was the tithe cellar of the Tihany Abbey. The red wines are still made here today, while the white and rosé wines are produced in the center of the village, in a plant converted from an old mill, using modern, reductive technology. The range reflects the diversity of Lake Balaton, with Furmint, Hárslevelű, Olaszrizling, sparkling wines and iconic orange wines also featured in the selection.

The center of the guest experience is the Esszencia Ház (Essence House) Drink&Shop: this is where guided tastings are held, where you can buy wine to take away, and as a wine bar open all year round, it welcomes guests in a comfortable space regardless of the weather. Outside of the season, only on announced days, but they are typically open daily in the summer and organize programs with flexible times for groups of 8-10 people or more.

Esszencia Ház also offers gastronomic extras: fresh pies, coffee and croissants, as well as its own and selected wines, beers, sparkling wines, and other beverages. What's more, sourdough artisan bread can be ordered online from the Kovászvirág Bakery.

Location & Accessibility

The historic cellar is located on Ebhegy Vineyard, while the main venue for the tastings is the Esszencia Ház in the center of the village. Both are located within Balatonszárszó, close to each other.

Esszencia Ház is located directly on Main Route 7 and welcomes guests with its own 6-space parking lot. The "Balatonszárszó, községháza" bus stop is a few steps away, and the local train station is a quarter of an hour's walk away. You can register for wine tasting online on the Cellar website.
