Eötvös Károly County Library - NOOK
Certain renovations had been due for some time at Eötvös Károly County Library due to moisture issues in the basement rooms along the walls bordering Komakút Square and Iskola Street. Continuous dampness in the external walls and ceilings, along with damage to the paint and plaster, had been causing persistent problems. Among the most critical tasks were addressing the building's moisture issues, reducing humidity and reviewing, repairing or replacing mechanical and electrical systems as needed. It was also important to improve the accessibility of the work environment and establish energy-efficient and cost-effective operations to ensure long-term sustainability.
The conversion of the 'knight’s hall' in the basement, currently used as storage, into a multifunctional space allows for an expansion of the existing educational and cultural spaces due to their high utilisation. The newly named ""NOOK"" room serves multiple cultural purposes, opening up new opportunities for the institution. Its furnishings are mobile, allowing the space to be adapted for various uses, such as small-group community networking, educational sessions and other types of presentations. A podcast studio has been installed, along with a multifunctional foyer featuring reading corners for individual use, computer workstations, and a lavatory to support the functioning of the space. The new community area has been given a separate entrance from the inner courtyard, allowing it to remain open independently from the library's regular operating hours.
