Balatorium project

Lake Balaton is the largest lake in Central Europe, undeniably one of Hungary's most important regions, whose reality is shaped by countless factors and lies at the intersection of countless interests. From plankton to investors, reed to holidaymakers, fish to sailors, locals to insiders, ecologists to beach operators, all stakeholders have their own viewpoints when it comes to Lake Balaton. But how aware are we of the complex interconnections of this delicate ecosystem? Do we really know our lake and the landscape to which we are so attached, and are we able to understand and recognise our common interests alongside our individual interests? It is in the spirit of these questions that the BALATORIUM series of programmes has been defined as the flagship project of VEB2023, exploring ecological issues in the region and communicating them through art and education.
