Introduction

Balaton Uplands National Park has been operating since 1997 and is one of Hungary's most diverse protected areas in terms of natural values. The park covers parts of Veszprém, Zala, Somogy, and Győr-Moson-Sopron counties, including the Tihany Peninsula, the Kál Basin, the Tapolca Basin, Kis-Balaton and Magas-Bakony. The area is rich in geological, botanical, and zoological treasures, and its cultural heritage is also outstanding.

The national park operates numerous visitor attractions, such as the Lavender House Visitor Center (Tihany), Salföldi Major, Tapolca Lake Cave, Pannon Observatory (Bakonybél), and Kálopuszta Buffalo Reserve. In addition to nature conservation, the park's goals include educational outreach and experiential environmental education, and therefore regularly organizes tours, family days, themed programs, and cave tours.
